Shackleton’s Epic: Recreating the World’s Greatest Journey of Survival (HarperCollins UK and Australia, 2013)
Chasing Shackleton (HarperCollins, USA 2013)

In this extraordinary adventure memoir, Tim Jarvis describes his modern-day journey to retrace, for the first time ever, the legendary 1916 survival journey of Sir Ernest Shackleton  – sailing a replica James Caird boat 1500kms across the Southern Ocean from Elephant Island, Antarctica to South Georgia and climbing over South Georgia’s mountainous interior using the same rudimentary equipment, period clothing and technology as Shackleton. The original journey was described by Sir Edmund Hillary as “the greatest survival journey of all time”.

Mawson: Life and Death in Antarctica (Melbourne University Press, 2008)

Tim’s fascinating account of his and fellow expeditioner John Stoukalo’s bid to shed light on events surrounding the 1913 Antarctic journey of legendary Australian explorer Sir Douglas Mawson – a journey that claimed the lives of both of Mawson’s companions.  In order to find out what really happened, Tim and John subjected themselves to the same gruelling conditions faced by Mawson and his men, including near-starvation rations. Released in conjunction with the award-winning international documentary film of the same name and officially endorsed by the United Nations Environment Programme in 2009, this is a gripping read.

An honest, at times frightening, at times humorous edge of the seat account of his bid for personal and geographical discovery at the limits of his ability. Tim’s first book.
