World record for the fastest unsupported journey to the South Pole and the longest unsupported journey in Antarctica, 1999.

 

Awarded the Australian Geographic Society's 'Spirit of Adventure' medal for his kayak journey down the Warburton River and trek across Australia's largest salt lake, Lake Eyre, 2004.

 

Author of two best-selling books, "The Unforgiving Minute", about his first 3 polar expeditions, and "Mawson: Life and Death in Antarctica" , the book based on an award-winning documentary film of the same name.

 

Accepted to the Yale World Fellows Program 2009 which aims to strengthen the leadership skills of a set of emerging leaders from around the world.
